Reporting: Field History Tracking
Field history tracking is a great way to monitor field value changes over time, when the change was made and by whom. Once field history is enabled on an object and the fields are designated, you can report on the historical data. Maybe you want to monitor Close Dates being pushed out on an Opportunity, who changed the status of an Account, or when an Opportunity moves into the “Proposal/Contract Sent” stage. It never hurts to take advantage of this setting, as it only gives you better reporting possibilities.
NOTE: Field history tracking can be enabled fo up to 20 fields on each standard and custom object. Data is only kept for 18 months. Although administrative abilities are needed to enable history tracking, anyone can actively report on field history.
